I use the Zoom H4 digital recorder to record my voice.
The greatest feature of this took is that it accepts XLR inputs and allows my +48V condenser microphone to be directly connected.
No need of having pre-amp and no noise due to less cable and less connection!
This is the best and most ecologically friendly way I have found to save electricity which is the nationwide effort in Japan right now.
A Perfect Solution Working in Japan
The Zoom H4:
๏ requires no extra tool/equipment which means less power consumption.
๏ recordings can be saved as wav or mp3 on an SD card and files can be transferred to PC via USB cable or by inserting the card into PC.
๏ there is an XY microphone attached to the body which can imitate the well known microphone models like SM57 / MD421 / U87 / C414.
๏ this function is useful on something like pod casting or jobs does not require studio quality.
๏ this small gadget can record at 24bit/96kHz in Linear PCM (wav) format.
Its many features come in handy including: Limit, Compression, Record on start, Mono-mix, Noise reduction and so on.
The Zoom H4 can also be an audio interface.
This equipment was designed for Voice recording, Field recording and Musical recording.
So many features are packed into this small tool.
A wind cover and stand connector are also included in the package, and audio editing software Cubase LE4 is bundled.
The next version of this H4 [H4n] has been released but the used ones of H4 are still very popular on the market and are sold at quite a high price.
All used H4 are bid on frequently via Internet auctions and their happy winners are willing to pay a good price for them.
Once you became a Zoom H4 user, you do not want use other ones and want to have two of them in case of trouble.
