Robbie Conway of RC PoP Art agreed to answer a few questions about their experience at Voices.com and how they've used the service to find, select and hire talent.
Recently Robbie completed a project at Voices.com and hired Lori Taylor. Read more on RC PoP Art's hiring experience.
How has Voices.com helped you with your project needs?
Voices.com allowed RC PoP Art to sift through countless options of friendly home operator characters until we found just the right tone, speed, and all around likable character to be used in a particular online animation. We had collaborated with Lori Taylor before through Voices.com on another similar project a few months before and established a great working relationship with her then.
How did you select the talent?
Even though we eventually came back to using Lori, there were countless other actors who submitted their version of our home operator for us. It was hard to choose someone and narrow it down. Some actors just don't sound the right age, or have the wrong delivery, but overall, the responses were incredibly professional. Most people don't realize how hard it is to read something off a sheet of paper and NOT sound like they're reading something off a sheet of paper. I know, as I've tried many times and failed miserably. Not everyone can act. In fact, very few can do it with an ease and believability that feels like reality. This is a common misconception that I'm here to reaffirm. Voices.com has REAL actors and a plethora- a virtual smorgasbord of talent upon which to choose from at a fraction of the cost compared to most talent agents.
After reviewing everyone's responses to the job (including her), we eventually settled on using her again, as she seemed just right for the job and had a real feel for this new persona we were hoping to create. We contacted her directly and received a response from her within a matter of MINUTES!
By the end of the day, we had exactly what we needed to move forward with the project. It was incredibly efficient and easy.
What challenges did you face using the Voices.com system to find talent?
The project was an online animation interactive that was specifically for training home operators with a company called Alpine Access. Within the animation, we had to hire 3 voices to tell our animated story; A narrator, played by Kevin Doherty (also discovered on Voices.com), a caller played by Petra Conaway, and lastly a friendly, happy, here-to-help home operator played by Lori Taylor. The Timeline was fairly short and we were also on a shorter budget than we preferred (no surprise there). Lori got the script and turned around in a little over an hour with multiple options for each take and then sent them back to us in the requested MP3 format.
There was a little problem figuring out that she needed to send the agreement before I could deposit the money to escrow, but we figured it out together and ended up with a far more satisfying productive day for the better, thanks to this useful service.
How would you describe your overall experience with the site?
Voices.com has been an absolutely essential asset in our work recently as we continue down the path of trying to achieve the best multimedia for the web.
We continue to recommend Voices.com to our clients and other advertising firms of it's usefulness. I know of at least 2 other Voices.com customers that use it's services due to our recommendations and I'm sure we will continue to build working and friendly relationships with more and more actors throughout the United States due to this company and website.
