I Was #66 And Booked The Job!

Laurie AllenDear Stephanie,

It was a day of one interruption after another. I was going to be wayyyy down in the queue by the time I got my finished tracks sent in ....and thought, "well, why even try." I was surprised and delighted to (at #66) actually get the job. A friend of mine told me that he recently booked a job at #89. It's hard not to give up when there are over 50 people ahead of you, but I've learned that it can and does pay off.

Thanks for the opportunity to share and your wonderful customer service at voices.com!

Sincerely,
Laurie Allen

  • I've seen reviewed auditions waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the pile, in to the triple digits, so it's never really too late to give it a shot.

    • Good for you my dear! May many more come your way! And to anyone else, I also got hired at position #58 and got the job, so it's never too late.

      Thanks for the encouraging article.

      • Good to see this. I was starting to give up when I saw 50+. ^..^

        • Wow, this gives me hope. I want to do this, but I hover between making the steps toward voiceover work as a reality and talking myself out of it because I think I'm not going to make it or I'm TOO OLD for the business.

          Thanks for posing your experience!

          • I was always told the general rule is forgot about auditioning if the list is more then 25. Yes...25! I have applied for a few jobs that had between 30 or 40 ahead of me. But I try not to audition is the number is way to high.

On the other hand, I knew a few people who have gotten jobs, even though they were number #80 or #90.

Can we say the moral of this story is, it is passable to land a job if your #50 or higher, but it depends on the job and how fast they need the job done. I'm sure, with most VO jobs posted, the 25 rule will be the general rule to stick with.

            • Good to know! As some one with a 9-5 job and voice acting part-time, it can be extremely to see 50 people respond to a job before I can even get in the studio.

              • I thought anything over 25 was done and over with. Thanks for the words of encouragement, although I cannot believe that someone sits and listens to 24 voices before mine....
