Adobe Audition subtraction
Oh, Wise Master!
I seek your wisdom... I have the latest version of Audition and I need to know the settings describe in this Q&A session. I looked in the Dynamics Processing area and did not find "limit soft w/boost". Do you know if Adobe renamed this preset or did away with it? Thanks from a radio vet who's actually new to VO.
Michael
You have chosen advisors wisely Michael! Welcome to the new reality of the online voice industry.
While I personally don't use audition, a quick look at the new Adobe Audition owners manual
Remember, presets are only there as a template. You need to learn what each individual adjustment does and then customize each setting to your personal tastes. As I always say; "Go out and play!" make some mistakes and learn how to use compression, limiting, noise gating and all the other parameters. We really didn't need to use much of that stuff in radio (Although we did anyway) because of all processing the audio went through before it hit the Harris "OPTIMOD" and whatever other magic boxes the engineers at the station had in the audio chain before it went in the transmitter.
Voice recording in todays digital age is a snap compared to the old days. After we shoo'd off the pterodactyls, got out our grease pencils and razor blades and burned an entire production shift on one spot, we all wished for an easier way. That day is now.
I've started using Adobe "SOUNDBOOTH' which is part of Adobe's integrated CS3 series of production tools. Its much more appropriate for what we do. Check it out for free at Adobe.com. I was so entranced by the demo, I went out and bought a new i-Mac with the new Dual Core Intel processor, just so I could use this program. Completely worth every penny! It has all the bells and whistles you'll ever need.
Good luck and let me know if you figure it out.
Master VO out
