Voices.com Publishes Overview of Voice Over Industry For Public

Voices.com, the voice over marketplace, is featuring articles on various branches of the voice over ecosystem this week on the VOX Daily Voice Actor’s Blog.

Toronto, Canada (VOICES.COM) July 23, 2007 – When a newcomer discovers voice overs and the art of voice over, they ought to be properly introduced to a who’s who of the industry which illustrates how each person in the mix plays a contributing role that propels the voice over industry, and the careers of those involved. Voice over is a very distinct niche within the entertainment and audio recording industries and like any other niche, there is a natural order of things and diverse relationships that take shape, many of which are symbiotic, or, mutually beneficial for various parties in the voice over ecosystem.

One of the best examples of this is how humans and trees rely upon each other. Trees produce the oxygen humans need to breathe. When humans exhale, or breath leaves their bodies, carbon dioxide is produced as a result. Following subsequent exhalations, the trees then breathe in the carbon dioxide, which is their source of air, and the cycle thus continues as the trees instinctively produce more oxygen-rich exhalation for people to inhale.

Just as in nature, many relationships within voice over are complementary and there are very few self-serving relationships. For those that do exist, they are a necessary part of our voice over ecosystem, and without them, there wouldn't be a balance. That is just the nature of things.

This week at VOX Daily, the team from Voices.com will provide an overview on each representative aspect of the voice over ecosystem including voice actors, voice over coaches and instructors, audio engineers and producers, voice over talent agents and talent agencies, casting directors, unions, voice over marketplaces, and clients who purchase voice over services.

Stay tuned to VOX Daily ( http://blogs.voices.com/voxdaily ), the voice actor’s blog, a closer look at each of these designations, their crucial roles within the voice over industry, and also how each affects other parts of the whole.

Chinese Voices Featured on Voices.com Voices of the World Week

Voices.com showcases Chinese voice actors during their Worldly Voices Week on the VOX Daily Voice Actors Blog.

Toronto, Canada (VOICES.COM) July 19, 2007 – With the recent popularity of documentaries on the subject of ‘China Rising’, it is no secret that China, in both trade and voice, is becoming a super power on the world stage, a power that will have the attention of the entire world thrust upon them as they host the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. While an economic powerhouse, China is also a linguistic power with millions of people around the world learning how to speak Mandarin and Cantonese in order to keep up with the fast paced growth being experienced overseas and International Trade.

Mandarin is quickly becoming the language of business and any businessperson who learns how to speak it is at an advantage to be certain. As the role of the Chinese language, spoken by billions, becomes more prominent cross the ocean and more Chinese citizens move to North America, the need for Chinese language skills and Chinese voice over will increase significantly. Continuing efforts to provide new citizens in North America of Chinese heritage with communications in their own language is very important.

Kuang Haze, a native female Chinese speaker and voice actress living in China’s Guangdong Province offers, "I have lots of clients from North American, because there are so many Chinese people living in North America. Then often hire me for radio PSA, on-hold systems, IVR, narration, translation and localization work."

Zhenyu Tan, a male Chinese voice actor based in Beijing, is also finding that North American clients seek his services much in part because of his polished Chinese dialect.

He relates, "More and more Chinese moved to North American so the local companies started to provide customized products and services for Chinese customers. The marketing is growing. Another factor is that many headquarters of global companies are located in North America and oftentimes they produce training materials for all the branches in different countries centrally in North America. The clients in North America have good credit on payment. Most of my jobs from North America are e-learning and business presentations."

One of the best ways to find a native speaker of Chinese is to conduct a search online or post a job using the Voices.com web service, home to over 15,000 voice over talents, hundreds of which, both male and female, are native speakers of Chinese located around the world including talent from China, Singapore, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

French Voices Featured on Voices.com Voices of the World Week

Voices.com showcases French voice talents during their Worldly Voices Week on the VOX Daily Voice Actors Blog.

Toronto, Canada (VOICES.COM) July 18, 2007 – When the French people or French language is thought of, images of elegance, haute couture, Amelie and Ratatouille may abound. French is not only the language of love, it's also a very useful and universal language that has found its way into many lands, whether through conquest or substantial settling by French immigrants and émigré to the New World as is the case with speakers in North America representing French Canadians, Acadians, and Cajuns, spreading its influence far beyond France. For instance, the American state of Louisiana was originally named in honor of the French ruler Louis XIV, also known as the Sun King.

According to French Canadian voice talent Andre Clermont, French is the 11th language in the world and is spoken in more than 60 countries by 79,572,000 native speakers (The Summer Institute for Linguistics (SIL) Ethnologue Survey 1999). Also, the International Organization of Francophonie has 51 member states and governments. Of these, 28 countries recognize French as an official language. French is also the only language other than English spoken on five continents, positioning French and English as the only two truly global languages. French, alongside English, is the official working language of organizations such as The United Nations, UNESCO, NATO, The International Red Cross, and the International Olympic Committee to name a handful.

Liz de Nesnera, professional voice over talent, US citizen and native speaker of European French said that French is becoming the "third language" most spoken after English and Spanish in the United States. Liz has seen a definite increase in the amount of jobs requesting French as the language of choice, including more complex options for corporate telephony (IVR or Message on Hold) or narrations geared toward French speakers.

In addition to the embrace of French in the US, the language has always been a major market as far as voice over goes in Canada, a country whose national languages are officially English and French. Having a neutral French accent makes it easier to work for bilingual projects requiring both English and French voice over as there is a standard dialect, dubbed “Broadcast French” that is required to reach a mass audience

"The accent in Paris is not the same as the accent in Marseilles or Quebec or Brussels, Geneva or Algiers. However, having an almost ‘generic’ accent that can allow the client's message to be understood by everyone is, in essence, what we in Voice-Over are here to provide."

One of the best ways to find a native speaker of French is to conduct a search online or post a job using the Voices.com web service, home to over 15,000 voice over talents, hundreds of which, both male and female, are native speakers of French located around the world including talent from France, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belgium, and The Netherlands.

Spanish Voices Featured on Voices.com Voices of the World Week

Voices.com showcases Spanish voice over talents, Castilian and Latin American, during their Worldly Voices Week on the VOX Daily Voice Actors Blog.

Toronto, Canada (VOICES.COM) July 16, 2007 – It's no secret that the Spanish market is booming in the United States, particularly the Hispanic market. After several generations of people from Latin America and South America establishing roots as American citizens in the southern states and the west coast of the US predominantly, the time has come for society to recognize the rich contributions, cultural and otherwise, that the Spanish speaking population of North America has introduced, including the beautiful Romance language of Spanish.

While the Spanish language enjoys a major presence on the world stage, people hiring voice talents should be aware of two significantly different dialects, the continental European Spanish which comes from Spain (Castilian or Castellano) and the familiar Latin American Spanish that North Americans are accustomed to that resonates of soft C's that sound like S's and other differentiators presented through popular songs similar to Feliz Navidad.

The Spanish spoken in the US is by most accounts the most universally spoken because of its effortless glides and genteel delivery not to mention the exposure it has enjoyed in the Americas. This is the gentle Spanish of Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, soap operas from Mexico, and the crooning of singers such as Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

Spanish voice over talent Simone Fojgiel, a native of Uruguay now living in the United States, says, “Just consider that Spanish is spoken by almost 400 million people natively. It is the fourth most spoken language by total number of speakers, including native and non-native Spanish speakers, which in total is approximately 500 million. The expansion of Spanish is frankly impressive. It is also the second most widely spoken language in the US.”

According to Simone, a native speaker of Latin American Spanish, the Spanish language is now one of the three most sought after languages in the voice over marketplace, propelled in part by recent studies in the United States indicating that the number of Spanish-dominant and bilingual Hispanics in America will increase by 45% over the next 20 years.

One of the best ways to find a native speaker of Spanish is to conduct a search online or post a job using the Voices.com web service, home to over 15,000 voice over talents, hundreds of which, both male and female, are native speakers of Spanish located around the world including talent from Spain, Colombia, Uruguay, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, the United States and Canada.

The 60 Second Pitch Now Open for Broadcast Industry

Voices.com has developed a new contest for voice actors, voice talent agents, voice over coaches and audio producers to give their elevator pitch.

Toronto, Canada (VOICES.COM) July 4, 2007 --

60 Second Pitch

When someone asks a person what it is that they do regarding their profession, most can answer with a quick and easy explanation of their position within an organization, but how does one answer confidently if they are self-employed or small business owners in the field of voice over? The web will find out soon enough through the Voices.com 60 Second Pitch Contest that opens on Monday July 9th, 2007.

What is a 60 Second Pitch? For 60 seconds, participants be pitching their services, letting everyone know who they are, what exactly it is that they do and how their product or service can make a difference in the lives of other people and positively affect how others do business. A 60 Second Pitch, also known as the "Elevator Pitch" is a quick and precise verbal presentation of a need that people have and why they should be fulfilling that need through the person who is pitching.

The name Elevator Pitch comes from the amount of time someone has to impress another person on the way to the top floor when seeking out investment from venture capitalists in ritzy metropolitan offices. Within that precious minute, a person needs to not only convey who they are, what they do, and how their business is the perfect fit for a market or niche, but the individual also needs to express that information convincingly, intelligibly, and with passion while not appearing blatantly salesy.

Communicating the message itself is a challenge let alone having to define everything in the first place. Recognizing this as the case, Voices.com is offering a webinar for those competing in the contest that will give them tips on how to prepare, craft and present their pitch for consideration.

The contest is open to everyone in the voice over industry including voice actors, voice over coaches, voice talent agents, audio producers and so on. Participants can submit their MP3 pitches via email to Voices.com to enter the 60 Second Pitch contest.

Winners will be announced on Friday July 27, 2007 via podcast on VOX Talk, the #1 voice over industry entertainment podcast presented by Voices.com.
