What's sitting on your bookshelf? Let's start a voice acting book club :)
This past week, I was reading Karen Commins' blog and saw a post that inspired me to ask you this:
Do you have a favorite (or multiple favorites) voice acting book that you would like to refer to your colleagues at VOX Daily?
Be sure to list your favorite voice-over and voice acting books. Each month, we'll take a look at one of your suggested books and compile a review, complete with your feedback via comments on the blog. Depending on the number of books you'd like to explore, we may post more frequently on this subject.
This list may include books about voice acting, voice acting techniques, voice-over, commercial voice-over recordings, biographies on famous voice actors, the business of voice-over, pedagogy, copy interpretation, technical aids, and more... the sky is the limit!
You are all invited to be members of the VOX Daily Book Club.

One book I recommend is "Secrets of Voice-Over Success: Top Voice-Over Actors Reveal How They Did It" by Joan Baker.
It's actually a compilation of essays by 19 top VO artists (Don LaFontaine, Joe Cipriano, Nancy Giles and many more) telling how they started & succeeded in the business as well as advise for those of us on the way up.
It's a great book in that it inspired me to just keep at it! If they could do it why not me?!
ALSO all the profits from the book go to the Alzheimer's Association (Joan's father - and mine BTW - passed away from the disease so this was her way of helping raise money to find a cure.) So you get inspired AND give to a good cause! ;-)

"The Voice Actor's Guide to Home Recording" - Jeffrey P. Fisher and Harlan Hogan
"VO: Tales and Techniques of a Voice-Over Actor" - Harlan Hogan
"The Art Of Voice Acting" - James R. Alburger
Currently I'm reading "Home Recording Studio: Build It Like The Pros" by Rod Gervais. This one is geared towards musicians but the principles still apply. So far I'm impressed with it because of the way Rod writes. Even a guy like me can understand the technical stuff.

I actually just started reading
"VO: Tales and Techniques of a Voice-Over Actor" by Harlan Hogan (I had picked it up at the Drama Bookstore in NYC last week after a VO gig) and am LOVING it!
