Voices.com Profile UpdatesWhat will your Voices.com website look like?

Well, that's up to you!

Discover some updates to the Profile, Files, Themes and Feedback Sections - you're going to love it!

Your Website

All voice talent websites are getting a fresh, updated look!

The core elements will remain the same with a few slick additions.

We've added the ability for clients to "Request a Quote", which sends you a Private Lead, or, clients can immediately make you a "Job Offer" (more on this later), literally bypassing the entire auditioning process, making the hiring experience easier and more enjoyable for both you and your clients.

You'll also notice a number in brackets beside your star rating. Clicking on the number lets you and other visitors see who has rated you and what they said. We call this feature "Ratings & Reviews". You will be able to manage everything related to those items in the Feedback section of your Profile.

Check out this voice talent website at Voices.com to get an idea of how you could fashion your own website using the new tools that will be made available to you.

Profile

We added some on-page help that provides suggestions on how best to complete your Profile.

We've even added sample voice descriptions such as:

Sample 1: Jim's voice is quite versatile and has been referred to as genuine, charismatic, and hilarious. Ranging from characters such as the stereotypical football coach to a doting father, Jim is able to cater his performance into a voiceover that works perfectly for your project.

Sample 2: Annette has a wide spectrum of vocal capabilities. Trained as a classical singer, Annette's vocal elasticity and burnished tone color shines brilliantly through commercials, telephone recordings, and children's audiobook narration projects.

Files

The Studio will be organized under the "Profile" tab. Note the change!

This will help you to edit all elements of your website in the same place - convenience at it's best.

All the same functionality applies, and with a new wide-screen design, it's easier to see all your files on a single page. If you have more than 10 files, we've added "Next 10" and "Previous 10" buttons, so you can navigate through all your multimedia files.

As a security measure, we've limited file uploads to .mp3, .wav, and .aif files for audio and banned potentially malicious file extensions such as .exe, .php, .asp and dozens of others.

Sticking to MP3 is a great idea for your demos. They'll play better in the Flash Player as well as take less time to load.

Themes

The color themes for your website were extremely popular, so we decided to add more for you to choose from.

Not only are there new designs, but background images, too.

Here's a sneak peek:

Feedback

One of the most requested features is the ability to see who is rating you. Well, this is now a reality. You'll be able to see the name of the person who gave you a star rating, as well as any comments they left you in the form of a review. You'll have the option to "Publish" these comments or to keep them hidden.

That does it for today's updates for the Profile. If you have any ideas or recommendations, leave a comment below.

Cheers,

Stephanie

VERY cool! I'm so excited to integrate the new options into my site! It's really these personalized and customizable elements that make it so easy to use my profile here as my main voiceover hub!

        Hi Stephanie,

It all sounds and looks good! I'd love to have a red or maroon color choice as it would more closely match my logo that I use instead of a photo! - Just in case you're thinking of adding more colors, too....:)

Thanks for the suggestion for more colors Melanie.

          Keep the ideas coming,

More enhancements! Sounds good. Like Melanie, I'd love to suggest purple as an added color (to match my Purple Chicken branding :-)

What about being able to upload a custom graphic as our background?

A couple of things. I like that we can separate our demos into various categories with your special icons but I'm worried that if I put my corporate training demo under "E-learning, etc.." I won't show up in a search where a client might look under "Business presentations". I've seen some people upload the same demo and put it into 2 different categories to circumvent this. Any reason why there are 2 separate categories for this instead of just 1? "Business Presentations & Training Videos" for instance. The two often go hand in hand.

I've brought this up before with Laurynda, but adding an option to choose a primary demo for EACH language that we have a demo for would be helpful and avoid having some random demo that may not necessarily showcase our best work assigned instead.

And one other big issue. Every time I upload a demo to my page, the filename gets changed by your system by appending a random number to the beginning of the filename. This is really annoying because I link to my page from other websites and every time I upgrade my demo, I have to keep changing the links on all the other sites too because the filename no longer matches. Any way you can NOT change the filename we upload? I.e. the way you originally had it set up?

Lastly, it would be nifty if we could all have a personal little section/folder where we could keep track of all the leads we've gotten. It would be a good way to see at a glance how many private leads we've gotten (and from who), how many leads from auditions, how many direct job offers, etc.. we would be able to delete or keep whichever ones we wanted. I know that for me personally, it helps to see things in perspective. That way I know where most of my gigs are coming from and also how many of them I've gotten from Voices.com. Since I don't put all my eggs in one basket and get work from various sources, this would help me at the end of the year to clearly assess how this is working for me.

Lastly, it would be helpful to know how clients found us when they send us a Private Lead. Was it from a search engine search they did? If so, what keywords or options did they use? Was it through a referral from someone else? Etc.. Knowing how potential clients find us is helpful for us talents in growing our business.

                    Keep up the good work!
                    Maggie

                        Hello,

All of your feedback and encouragement is sincerely appreciated.

If I could, Maggie offered up some great suggestions, so I'll take a moment to reply to them, one-at-a-time.

                        ~ Demos & Categories ~

Agreed, it's silly you need to upload the same file twice, just to place it in two different categories.

Similar to how we classify a blog post by checking boxes beside a number of categories, I'm sure we could build a similar feature that let's you simply "check the boxes" beside which categories your demo fits into.

I'm confident we can solve this one, hopefully in the near term.

~ The File Naming of Demos ~

Little happens without purpose around here, and there is logic behind the numbers attached to files you upload at Voices.com.

We've recently given each file a unique ID, so we can soon provide you with more statistics on how many times your demo was played. This can only be done by placing the ID ( a series of numbers ) as a prefix in the file name. We found the numbers to be unobtrusive, however if feel otherwise ( which it sounds like you do ) just let us know.

Are you ultimately looking for a YouTube style code for linking directly to your demo goes here? Would that be helpful?

~ Private vs. Public Leads ~

If you haven't seen the next post, I'd recommend you take a look at it.

Stephanie explains some new terminology including Private Leads, and Public Leads, all managed within a new "Leads" tab in your Voices.com account.

Your goal, is to convert the "Leads" into "Jobs" which result in "Payments" for you.

Our goal is to build simple tools that let you do what you do best; be professional voice talents serving world-class organizations.

                        Glad we're in this together.

                        Thanks for listening.

That would be great and makes perfect sense!!

I understand now why you have prefixes though it doesn't solve my problem of having to go and change all the links everywhere else... Any way you could use the upload date instead of filename as your parameter?

                          Thanks for all your efforts!
