The author of the giveaway for this week, Paul Russell, has been in the business for nearly 30 years, working as a casting director, director and former actor. He has worked on projects for major film studios, television networks, Broadway, and is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
If anyone has some hot tips to share from years of experience in different facets of the entertainment industry, Paul Russell does, and he's donated a copy of his brand new book (released October 2008) "Acting : Make It Your Business" for giveaway on VOX Daily.
Want to win? Leave a comment!
Written by an award-winning, veteran casting director, this book puts the power to land jobs and thrive in any medium - stage, film, TV, or the Internet - directly into the hands of the actor. This blunt, wise, and often hilarious guide overflows with cutting-edge audition, marketing, and networking strategies, combining traditional techniques with those best suited for the digital age.
Well-known actors and powerful agents make cameos throughout, offering newcomers and working professionals alike a clear-eyed, uncensored perspective on survival and advancement within the entertainment industry.

Posted by:I am so glad I opened my email this morning and saw the Vox Daily in my inbox. I have always been interested in doing voiceovers and I firmly believe that a voice can portray all sorts of emotions and help a person 'see' what they are hearing. A little lesson in acting could only help!

What a great giveaway and piece of information! A couple of years ago, after having done commercials for radio for years, I finally realized that "actor" is what I was really striving to be! This book would really further my education of the craft and resources! Hope I win!

How to avoid mistakes? No need to re-invent the wheel, that's my mistake. I need to have this book! Fingers crossed, Jerry James
Posted by:I wonder if Paul might have any encouragement for a 78 year old chareacter actor who has given up stage and film work because if the director is more than three feet away from me, I cannot hear her or him. Of course I would like to win.

Posted by:Dear Stephanie:
I would love to win this book by Paul Russell! I have been trying to get into voice overs for almost a year. To date I have submitted over 400 auditions without a single request for work..
This is a whole new world for me and I think I can do it very well. Over the years I have done some radio and television work. A few years ago I worked at a local FM station for six weeks while their morning man had heart surgery. I enjoyed it very much. People were very complimentary about my voice. I have a spot running right now for a hamburger place that I did about three years ago.
The reason I want to win this book is that so much has changed in the business in the last few years from a technical well as a preforming point of view. With this book I feel that I could learn the things I need to learn so that I can become competitive. For instance the pace of the wording has picked up and I need to grasp that idea. There also has been a tremendous change in the technical aspect. I can cut a spot and convert it to an MP3 and ship it out but there is so much more now and, being away "from the bright lights" so to speak, I am at a disadvantage. I live in Longview, Texas, and just about all of the local voice acting is done by the DJs at the local radio stations. I have visited them along with the local advertising companies and they are very encouraging but so far, no responses.
Let me say once again, I would certainly like to win Paul Russell's book. I would put it to good use and make you proud of me!
I enjoy your Vox Daily efforts and learn a great deal from them.
I look forward to hearing from you.
With kindest regards I am,

Hi there,
Well, I'd like to comment, but do I have to really make a comment, or can I act like I really want to make a comment, just so I can win stuff? After all, it's about acting right? Riiiight. Anyways, I think what y'all are doin is really great, and I'd sure like a chance to win one o' them there actin' tips cause Lord knows I really need to git some tips n' stuff. See? There I go again, actin' and playin' like I know how to do regionalisms n' stuff.....dang. Anyways, let me know if I win, kay? Cause I'm like all funny and stuff, and then I get all weird cause now I'm like all, wow, am I overdoing it, or is this like all cool and stuff? So I was like all nah aaa, and you were like all ya haa, and so I was like all, oh no you didn't. Anyways, thanks for the tip.

This book at first glance looks like part of the cover image is missing. If this smart way of getting attention translates to his way of standing out and getting noticed, no doubt this will be a great book for all of us to read and then be noticed.
Posted by:Paul,
Congrats on your new book!
And thanks for the opportunity to win stuff!
I would love to win the new book, or coaching sessions!
Regardless, I look forward to hearing your POV and insight...

Posted by:I'd LOVE a copy! Making the transition from jazz musician to voice actor, although I never thought of voice acting as acting acting until I tried to do it, has been one of the most interesting endeavors of my life. Anything that helps point out the path is worth reading!
