I had the opportunity to review You Can Bank on Your Voice by Rodney Saulsberry in January of 2007 and highly recommend this book to all voice over professionals, particularly those who are fresh in their careers or are aspiring to join the fray.

Published in 2004, Rodney Saulsberry's book (covers all aspects of getting started as a voice-over talent coupled with well chosen vignettes from his own career to entertain and inspire.
While the book was literally brimming with useful information about getting started, setting up a home studio, growing your business and taking care of your voice, I'd like to mention the three elements that stood out the most to me.
These elements were:
๏ Rodney's storytelling capabilities
๏ The attention given to the importance of relationships in the voice-over business
๏ A comprehensive guide on how to interpret copy for commercials, tags, promos, trailers, and legal tags as well as hard sell / soft sell reads and so on
In addition to the core content, Rodney includes several appendices covering copy samples, vocal exercises, and resources as well as an extensive glossary.

Stephanie, you post all that stuff about staying healthy, and then I go and get sick. Very frustrating.

I happen to have borrowed this book at the library and it was very insightful. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs to get off on a good footing.
The voice over industry isn't for pushovers, and Rodney Saulsberry's book reminds you of this. It teaches all sorts of useful tips and nuggets of information that can spark a great career.

THIS sounds like exactly the information I SHOULD have had AGES ago...
Although I hit a speedbump in the form of a paralyzed cord JUST AFTER my FIRST voice over audition this past spring, I'm STILL determined to work my way back and break into the voice over field.
And since the good news was there is no OBVIOUS reason for the cord to have gone wonky, I'm keeping the faith (but a little professional direction won't hurt!!!)

Rodney's book "You Can Bank On Your Voice" is simply exceptional. A must for the beginner or pro and a great reference tool for any voiceover artist!
