Time flies when you are having fun!
While I never miss my wedding anniversary or family member birthdays, it would appear that I've missed a big milestone for the Voices.com blog, VOX Daily!
Join me now as I take a look at some of the highlights we've experienced together via the wonderful worldwide web that have impacted the voice over industry since December 20, 2005.
The first posting ever made on this blog was about the very first Podcasters Meetup I ever attended. I remember this time and the events surrounding the post vividly. David and I planned a trip to Toronto that included a trip to the Apple Store to pick up a new technology called an "iPod" and also to attend a podcasters meetup that was held by Tod Maffin, someone who works for the CBC.
Before I go any further, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and formally thank Bob Souer, Peter K. O'Connell, Karen Commins, Brian Haymond and other peers who were (and many still are) blogging at that time for their support.
David was determined that I try this "blogging" thing and I was dedicated from the start, but let me tell you, blogging without an audience is a tough gig! It wasn't until I started sharing the posts with people via email that I started to get comments.
While comments can be used as a metric that somewhat validates what you've said, comments are also a means to gauge interest and build community.
You can only imagine how excited I was when comments became more regular! What was being presented warranted discussion and engaged people... the fact that someone would take the time to respond is amazing and a gift that I am grateful for.
After months of not getting any comments, we decided to become slightly more creative with sharing the content by manually updating the Voices.com My Account area to include a brief tag line with a link directing our members to read the post. After that, a roundup of select articles were featured in our monthly newsletters that were sent out via email to generate more interest and discussion among the voice over community.
Over time, this has grown to incorporate other ways to share with our community via social networks and through social media.
Let's take a journey back in time. The first person to comment outside of David or I (yes, you can laugh) was Glad Faith Klassen on June 21, 2006 followed shortly thereafter by Ken Jackson of Ken Jackson Voice Productions. Other comments began to trickle in from pros such as Brian Haymond, Kathy Williamson, Bob Souer, Tim Lundeen, Bobbin Beam and Johnny George to name just six.
Come to think of it, June 21, 2006 was a very popular day because we raised the question of whether or not people were charging for revisions. Quite a popular topic as you might imagine. This topic encouraged 32 comments to be shared on the blog.
There are a lot of neat things that go on behind the scenes with the blog. Here are some interesting facts and VOX Daily statistics as of December 22, 2010 at 8:30 p.m. EST:
