Maybe you design apps and are interested in learning more about how they are made.

Find out how our team designed the Voices.com app and get on a list to be one of the first people to know once it's launched!

Voices.com App

As the Co-Founder of Voices.com, I often hear the request from our customers for an iPhone app. Considering that iPhones and iPads account for 15% of our web traffic according to Google Analytics, I figured the time is now!

Pageviews, visitors to Voices.com from mobile apps, analytics

If you're new to Voices.com, it's the marketplace where business people connect with professional voice talents. With Voices.com, you can post jobs, review responses and award the best candidate the job. For voice talents, Voices.com provides access to job opportunities and prompt payment with our innovative SurePay Escrow service.

Having two distinct groups of customers, each with their own needs, I decided that the first step should be to plan as much of the application as possible on paper. Working with our in-house mobile application developer, we used MindNode to create a mindmap for the entire workflow on a screen-by-screen basis.

Next, the screens were designed in Photoshop. I put together a design brief that was shared with our power users and beta tester list (a list that we have been building up over the past couple of years to alert early adopters of improvements, new features or in this case an entirely new iPhone app).

We emailed out the design brief and invited people to join us for a webinar. The design brief provided some context as to what the app will do and the webinar was used to gather feedback and first impressions.

You can download the design brief here.

You can listen in on a virtual focus group here.

After the webinar we asked for first impressions in a survey and got wonderful feedback such as "Looks slick and functional," "Complete and well-thought out," and, "Appeared to have cohesive integration with website." Sounds like we were definitely on the right track!

The end result is an app that will serve our customers. The Voices.com App gives you visibility of your entire account no matter where you are.

With The Voices.com iPhone App, You Can:

๏ Tap into a global network of more than 25,000 professional voice over talents. Search by keyword, gender, language, location and specialty.
๏ View profiles, check out feedback ratings and reviews and listen to audio samples.
๏ Post jobs publicly (to all matching candidates) or private (to just people you invite) and review responses remotely. Be notified in real-time as new responses roll in.
๏ Listen to auditions right from your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
๏ Award the job and send payment to get your project moving forward.
๏ Communicate by internal messaging and make sure your project is completed on time and within your budget.
๏ Fully access your inbox, updates, alerts and tickets.

As we approach the launch of the Voices.com iPhone app, we feel more confident that we're releasing a solid product that will be well received because we listened to the feedback of our customers and incorporated their ideas early on in the development cycle.

I trust that learning about our development process will encourage you to include user feedback into your own iPhone app.

      Hi Peter,

Thank you for commenting and for asking your question about an Android app for Voices.com. We are working on a Voices.com app for Android and appreciate your interest. The iPhone and iPad apps will be released first and we aim to have the Android app available by the end of the year.

      Best wishes,

      Stephanie
