John Wooden UCLA basketball coach NCAAWhat do you perceive success to be?

Is it possible to be contented in all circumstances?

Each day there is an inspirational quote read during the Voices.com team huddle. A number of quotes of late have been from a book by the late John Wooden, basketball player and UCLA coach.

Hear what Wooden had to say about success and happiness and share your thoughts in today's VOX Daily.

Defining Success

You might be familiar with the late, great John Wooden. John Wooden won ten NCAA national championships in a 12-year period--seven in a row--as head coach at UCLA, an unprecedented feat. Although he achieved legendary status, he preferred to be known as teacher and his players devotedly called him 'Coach.' More important and longer lasting than his earthly accolades was Wooden's legacy of love and faith.

What does it take then to be successful and happy?

Having experienced this both professionally and personally (Wooden was married to his high school sweetheart and beloved wife for 53 years before her passing), I think we can take his definition to heart:

"Success and happiness is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming." - John Wooden

Accepting Both Success And Failure

Wooden knew that there was a difference between winning and succeeding. He made his thoughts available to everyone through this TED Talk. The following is a three-minute tribute to John Wooden that tells you more about the man who made the statement.

How Do You Define Success?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes,
Stephanie
