If there was one thing you could wish for, what would it be?
Kristina Barrett was diagnosed with clear cell sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in 2010 at eight years of age.
When asked last year by the Make-A-Wish Foundation what she wanted most, Kristina decided that being a voice in one of her favourite movies would be just the thing.
Hear more about this little girl and her dream come true in today's VOX Daily.
Like most children, Kristina Barrett loves having fun and being with her family. She also enjoys watching animated films and reciting lines from movies. Kristina is also courageously fighting cancer having already gone through five rounds of chemotherapy for about three months and surgery to remove the tumor where they had to remove the bone in her shoulder.
Because the cancer had spread to Kristina's lungs, she was able to be put onto a clinical drug trial and the tumors have not grown since.
One year after Kristina's clear cell sarcoma diagnosis, Make-A-Wish Foundation came alongside the Barrett family and presented Kristina with an opportunity to name her wish. After thinking long and hard about what that might be, she decided on being one of the voices in The League of Incredible Vegetables movie, a film released just last week. The subtitle of this film? A Lesson in Handling Fear.
I first heard of Kristina's story via a Google Alert pointing me to an article in the Kingwood Observer penned by Jennifer Summer about how a local girl performed a voice-over in a VeggieTales movie for Make-A-Wish.
On October 13th, Kristina had the opportunity to walk the red carpet for The League of Incredible Vegetables premiere at Kingwood Bible Church, attended by friends, family and members of her community. The premiere also served as a fundraiser to help pay for Kristina's medical bills and hospital visits.
According to the Kingwood Observer, Kristina was flown to Tennessee to record and also got to spend time with one of the movie's prolific voice talent.
You can read more about Kristina's experience via an article on her father's blog called VeggieTales + Kristina = One Awesome Video and see a photo of Kristina with VeggieTales voice of Larry the Cumber, Mike Nawrocki. Kristina was officially credited as voicing the role of Pea Girl.
Do you have a burning desire on your heart? If you were given one wish, what would you wish for?
Looking forward to hearing from you!
