What's in store for Voices.com members?
Cleaner, more intuitive navigation and a brand new HTML5 Audio Player!
Learn more as Voices.com CEO, David Ciccarelli, walks you through the design team's recent developments in today's VOX Daily.
At Voices.com, our vision for design is to offer a consistent customer experience across the website, mobile site, iPhone, iPad and Android apps. This vision has encouraged us to develop a design philosophy around three key concepts that relate to mobile apps;
Growth: Thinking "Mobile First" in our designs and product development prepares us for explosive growth and new opportunities emerging in mobile today.
Focus: Thinking "Mobile First" forces us to focus and prioritize our products and services by embracing the constraints inherent in mobile design.
Innovation: Thinking "Mobile First" allows us to deliver innovative experiences by building on new capabilities native to mobile devices and modes of use.
With our mobile ambitions as a backdrop, today we're introducing a newly designed audio player, top-level website navigation and simplified button styling. Let's explore each of these now.
The header is the top level navigation which provides 1-click access to all the key areas of the website. The header should remain the same throughout a members' visit to Voices.com.
The header is broken up into three areas; The "utility bar," "navigation bar," and "title bar." The function and placement of the elements within each bar will remain consistent.
The same sections of the site will be the same sections of our mobile apps. No fluff, just the essentials to search for, audition and hire a voice talent at Voices.com.
On a voice talent's profile, their name and location will be in the title bar. On the far right hand side, sharing options will be available. This will be the standard location for sharing and social media chicklets.
We're now using new audio players based upon the HTML5 design standard. This means that the player will work in the Safari browser on iPhone, iPad and iPad Mini. Also, if a visitor doesn't have Flash, these new audio players will work just fine.
On the home page, we'll be prominently featuring 5 voice talent who have recently landed jobs. The featured talent list refreshes several times a day, so if you've recently won a voice-over job, keep a look out for your name and profile image on the home page.
Tip: Upload a high-resolution photo so you create a great first impression and encourage people to click through to your profile.
The home page has also been simplified to put a further emphasis on the Featured Voice Talent.
Heat maps show where people click. In our testing, we've discovered that finding voice-over talent is the primary activity at the website. And that process starts by listening to voice talent. You can see the effect of these actions in the heat map. The brighter the spot, the more clicks happened there. Fascinating!
There are several other improvements, but those are the big ones. We hope that you find the site to be fresh, clean and simple.
