Going Public SM.jpegThis June marks the 18th annual June Is Audiobook Month (JIAM).

To celebrate the written and recorded word, a group of narrators, producers, bloggers and authors are joining forces to bring to life some of the greatest classic short stories of all time with Going Public...in Shorts!

Going Public...in Shorts showcases thirty-eight Spoken Freely narrators reading thirty-eight short works from the public domain. From Chekhov to Chopin, Poe to Lovecraft, even Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address will be heard online this June. The narrators will be hosted on various industry blogs across the net each day throughout the month.

This incredible project was first brought to our attention by Voices.com talent member Rachel Fulginiti who is contributing "Death and the Woman," a short story by Gertrude Atherton. It can be heard on Bob Souer's The Voiceover Bobblog on June 19th.

We were also thrilled to learn that another Voices.com member, Diane Havens, is involved in the project. Diane has done a beautiful narration of Oscar Wilde's grownup fairytale "The Selfish Giant." A sneak listen can be heard here: https://soundcloud.com/goingpublic/gpsneaklisten4#play. The full piece can be heard on Michael Stephen Daigle's blog on June 14th.

Spreading the Word and the Wealth for Literacy

At the end of the month all of the readings will be available for purchase in one compilation through Blackstone Audio. One hundred percent of the proceeds are going to Reach Out and Read, an innovative children's literacy organization which serves over 4 million families across America with emphasis on helping those in lower income communities.
