How about singing?

Recently, a flurry of advantageous opportunities were posted for child voice actors, tweens in particular, to audition for through the Voices.com website.

Could there be an opportunity here for your family?

Is there a shining star living under your roof?

Find out how you can enrol your son or daughter in a Child membership at Voices.com to receive auditions for work they'll be proud of in today's VOX Daily.

Casting Voice-Over Projects Requiring Tweens

Have you ever heard of a tween? Simply put, a tween is a child shy of 13 years old, with a sound ranging between 10 to 12 years of age give or take. This particular voice age range is a tricky one to peg for male talent because of the changes their voices go through during puberty.

For younger male tweens, their voices possess a pre-pubescent quality whereas the voices of older tweens have started to shift, deepening and lowering as their larynx grows, producing a more manly sound.

Just as we've seen trends for voice talent to sound "less announcery," and more like a "real person," there appears to be an emerging trend where clients are stipulating that the reads for children's voice-over jobs be provided by genuine child voice actors and not by adults who can sound like children.

Are We Witnessing a Changing of the Guard?

Traditionally in animation circles, children's voices, especially male child voices between the ages of 7 to 14 have primarily been performed by women who are able to sound like young boys. The main reason for this is consistency in the role, ensuring that a character's voice doesn't need to be recast.

One of the most famous examples of this is actress Nancy Cartwright who performs the voice of Bart Simpson on The Simpsons. Bart, at age 10, is technically a tween. Cartwright's gig has lasted over 25 years, making a solid living sounding like a 10 year-old boy.

All of this said, advertisers are looking for authentic tween voices, some even stating that they will not consider adult female voice talent, who in the past, may have been cast without question.

Return to Authentic Children's Voices

We're definitely seeing a revival in children being cast to voice children's roles. Consider the voice of Walt Disney's Pinocchio, the late Dick Jones, who was just 10 years old when he voiced the role of Pinocchio. If you can imagine, he already had 40 movies to his credit!

All of this said, while the demand for certain child voices is there, sometimes we find ourselves short on supply. While most of these needs can be met by the existing talent pool at Voices.com, there certainly have been times where we've reached out through social networks to discover new talent and invite them to sign up for a profile to audition.

Wouldn't it be easier though to simply be notified of the job without having to be specially invited long after others have already submitted their auditions?

Are Your Kids Voice Actors?

If you are a voice talent listed on Voices.com, you may have children who also do voice-overs. Wouldn't it be great if you could submit them for auditions, too?

There is an option to sign up for a Child Membership at a discounted rate of $99USD per year, a membership that includes all the benefits of a Premium annual membership for a fraction of the cost.

Please note that the Child membership is not available for purchase through the website and as the parent, you'll need to phone us to get the deal. If this is something that interests you, contact Jennifer Smith by emailing jennifer(at)voices.com to setup a call.

With warm regards,
Stephanie
